Okay let’s face it, I don’t like taking medications any more than the next guy.  However, it is an unfortunate fact that some floxed folks do have to take prescription medication.  In addition, Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Saving Moneyputs an enormous financial pressure on its victims and many have to pay the majority of their healthcare out of pocket.  We do not live in a panacea and if the truth be known we would probably have to pay a majority of our medical costs out of our pockets even if the affordable health care law gets fully implemented.  The scope of this article or guide is not to debate the merits or lack thereof of the affordable health care or the need for taking medications produced by drug companies.  And no, I do not have a sinister connection to any drug companies or any sites listed below.  Instead it is meant as a guide to help those, who out of necessity find it necessary to obtain medication at a discount.

There are many drug discount programs available for individuals.  If you need medication they can, many times, save you a lot of money.  Also, many people are fooled into thinking that they will not qualify for some discounts but this is not necessarily true.  The standard level for ‘low income’ is often quite variable which could allow for more to participate.

NeedyMeds – In my opinion, Needymeds is the number one site to visit if you are looking for discounts on prescription drugs or health care.   Needymeds is a 501c3 non-profit that is dedicated to helping people find discounts on medications and health care.  It provides information on literally thousands of programs that are sponsored by support organizations, pharmacies, and drug companies.  You can look up programs on individual drugs or by diagnosis.  Needymeds also has its own drug discount card. 1-800-503-6897.

Partnership for Prescription Assistance – The Partnership for Prescription Assistance helps qualifying patients without prescription drug coverage get the medicines they need through the program that is right for them. Many individuals can get their medications free or nearly free. The PPA offers a single point of access to more than 475 public and private programs. 1-888-477-2669

RX Outreach –   Is a nonprofit charity that provides critical medicine for people who can’t afford it. They offer more than 500 medications through our mail order pharmacy delivered to all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.  RX Outreach has fairly generous qualification financial guideline. 1-800-769-3880

Health Assist RX – If you have no prescription insurance coverage or have exceeded your policy limits, AND you earn less than $2,000 per month as an individual, or $3000 per month as a couple, you could qualify for free medication. Health Assist RX acts as a go-between, between the patient and the free prescription but strictly documented programs offered by pharmaceutical companies. There is a one-time application fee of $25, plus a service fee of $15 per medication per month.  Health Assist RX was created by a nonprofit organization called Volunteers in Health Care which is associated with Brown University. 1-877-277-9769

RX Hope – RX Hope takes advantage of the Patient Assistance Programs that are provided to low income residents of the U.S.  RX Hope requires that the Physician, Physician Assistant, Office Manager, or Social worker chooses the available products, fills in the application, and depending on manufactures, either prints and faxes the application to proper address. All information is sent to the pharmaceutical manufacturer for final approval and shipping. Xubex –Xubex offers a variety of services ranging from Patient Assistance Program for generics medications, Discount Drug Program, Free Medication and Diabetes Care Kits and supplies, Discount Diabetes Supplies and Co-pay Assistance Program.  Xubex has its own pharmacy. 1-866-699-8239 Info@xubex.com

RXAssist – RxAssist is a nationally recognized, web based medication assistance resource center. Established in 1999 with funding from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  RXAssist acts as a informational link between the patient and the Patient Assistance Programs, provided by pharmaceutical companies. RXAssist does not charge for the application or to have your application reviewed by the company offering the medication.
